    This WHAV 2025 session addresses obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in women, highlighting how phenotype and risk factors shift across life stages. Experts discuss how varying phenotypes contribute to delayed diagnosis and review screening tools, referral strategies, evidence linking OSA to cardiometabolic risks in menopause and pregnancy and available treatment options. The program underscores the importance of a precision medicine approach informed by phenotype, hormonal status, and patient goals at each stage of a woman’s life.

    Upon completion of this activity, learners should be better able to:

    • Identify obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in women by recognizing atypical presentations
    • Integrate validated assessment tools into clinical practice to improve the timely diagnosis and treatment of OSA
    • Describe the increased risk of OSA in women in menopause, including the role of hormonal changes, changes in body composition, and the impact on cardiometabolic health
    • Identify pregnant patients at high risk for OSA
    • Recognize the range of treatment options for OSA, including CPAP alternatives and adjunctive therapies like weight-loss medications, to better inform referral decisions for comprehensive patient care

    This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of ob-gyns and PCPs as well as all other physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, and healthcare providers involved in managing patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
